Following Nigeria’s early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down from his position.
Augustine Eguavoen was charged with the responsibility of leading Nigeria to AFCON after the dismissal of Gernot Rohr and the coach immediately received praises from the fans of the male national football team following the team’s run in the group stages that saw them picked up the maximum 9 points conceding just once.
However, things took a different shape in the round 16 match on Sunday evening as Tunisia pipped Nigeria by a lone goal.
The defeat led to the immediate announcement of the coach to drop from the interim coach position back to his Technical Director assignment. This he said in the press conference after the match:
“I’m the Technical Director of the NFF, I will go back to my job and allow the authorities to decide.”
